There are just too many awesome things about turning 5! Forget about nap time — you get to start school, your brain is exploding with knowledge, you make new friends, you can refill your cup all by yourself since you can now reach the water dispenser, you invent and create party machines and alphabet games, you make your own sandwiches, animals and art are still your passions, you’re very serious about keeping up with sweeping the leaves off the deck, your self-confidence and independence are growing by the day, but you still love to sneak in bed with me every night for a good snuggle. We celebrated the birthday girl this year with...
New ‘do
It’s haircut season! Just shy of one year since her first haircut, E braved the chair again for a short, sassy new ‘do. Leading up to her appointment feelings were mixed and while it was hard for both of us to let go of her signature long hair, it turned out so cute and she definitely felt great about it afterwards....
Snip, Snip!
We’ve come to a major milestone in girl-world, everybody…. Emerson’s first haircut! For as long as I can remember she’s been pretty stubborn about wanting to grow her hair “to her feet like the fairies.” I finally convinced her that maybe a little trim would be a good idea in order to maintain good hair health. She agreed and skeptically joined me for a very quick trip to the salon. The expression on her face which did not change for her entire visit says it all, “I’m nervous about this but curious enough to let you come at me with those scissors.” She definitely breathed a sigh of relief when it was...

We gathered family and friends at Memorial Park for a pizza picnic and outdoor fun. After temps in the 90’s for most of the past week, a 70 degree day felt almost chilly! A low-key party in the park was the perfect mix of food and fun for E and her guests. Did I mention Emerson specifically requested a ‘Black and White’ themed party? For several months she stuck to her guns and insisted on a black and white cake (chocolate with white frosting) and white balloons. She also...
She’s three…. and then some!
My sassy cowgirl turned 3! Emerson rang in her third year with her dad and his family and friends in Humboldt. We all got together for a celebration last Saturday which was full of big surprises… and ice cream cake. Thank you to all who made this day special for her! Three years has gone too quickly as it is and she’s already telling me she’s 3-1/2. I wonder how old she’ll be by the time her next birthday rolls around. This may be a long year… With age comes great responsibility. Emerson has been an A+ student in the potty-training program these past few weeks. After months and months...
