Christmas Eve Outtakes

As I went through the millions of photos from Christmas Eve/Day I seriously wondered if we were even trying to get just one nice shot…. I think we were but there’s no evidence. How hard is it to get a decent family Christmas photo? Pretty impossible actually…...

Fall 2.0

In the final weekend before Halloween, we squeezed in several fun activities and still made time for plenty of relaxation. Here’s our weekend review in reverse order. Emerson pretty much summed up our afternoon yesterday when she said, “My feet are schfeating (sweating)! I can’t believe I’m saying this… I am too hot outside!” It was the most beautiful day we’ve enjoyed outside for months it seems. We played until the sun went to bed, mostly gathering or raking leaves. E has been making these lovely leaf bouquets lately which are actually really pretty in their own rustic way. She also gathered a variety of leaves that fit into the...

Saturday in the Park

The end of a great birthday week! Saturday was a blustery yet beautiful day to celebrate Emerson’s birthday in Spirit Lake. We gathered family and friends at Memorial Park for a pizza picnic and outdoor fun. After temps in the 90’s for most of the past week, a 70 degree day felt almost chilly! A low-key party in the park was the perfect mix of food and fun for E and her guests. Did I mention Emerson specifically requested a ‘Black and White’ themed party? For several months she stuck to her guns and insisted on a black and white cake (chocolate with white frosting) and white balloons. She also...

She’s three…. and then some!

My sassy cowgirl turned 3! Emerson rang in her third year with her dad and his family and friends in Humboldt. We all got together for a celebration last Saturday which was full of big surprises… and ice cream cake. Thank you to all who made this day special for her! Three years has gone too quickly as it is and she’s already telling me she’s 3-1/2. I wonder how old she’ll be by the time her next birthday rolls around. This may be a long year… With age comes great responsibility. Emerson has been an A+ student in the potty-training program these past few weeks. After months and months...

Easter Jubilee

Easter has an interesting way of bringing out the competitive side of my family. There’s something about the thrill of an Easter egg hunt that is enjoyable and exciting even in adulthood. While Emerson visited her dad for some Easter festivities, my sisters and I battled it out down to the very last egg, hidden very well might I add. Even with the aid of Em’s shopping cart, I was not agile enough to defeat my sisters — Meghan collected the most eggs for a landslide victory. My mom’s elaborate and infamous game of eggs is full of cash, candy and prizes. Lucky for me, the rules of the game stipulate...
