As interested as Emerson was in the Christmas story, she was also well aware of Santa this year. She waited very patiently for everyone to wake up and gather together Christmas morning, but once we started on those gifts she was unstoppable. One of her Christmas books reminds us that the gifts we give one another represent the love of the Wisemen who brought gifts to Baby Jesus. Let me just say, we are loved and blessed by family and friends and I hope we always show love in return! I wish it didn’t take a major holiday to remind me of this each and every day. Wishing you all happy...
Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
Today we decorated the Christmas tree! I really thought Emerson would be all about ornaments this year, but she was more interested in eating raisins and literally rocking around the tree… well near it anyway. She’s been down with a pretty bad cold the past week so it was satisfying just to see her having some fun. ...
A Bittersweet Turn of Events
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. – Reinhold Niebuh Normally I wouldn’t write anything this personal for the world to read, but I’d like to briefly share our recent journey so that we might possibly begin moving forward again. It’s been difficult to blog in the past month as our family has been experiencing many changes. I am thankful to have had the wisdom to know that separating from Emerson’s father was the right thing to do and that we’d all be better for it eventually. I didn’t realize...

It only took a few bad experiences to realize eating out was far more work than dining in. Spilled drinks, toddler tantrums and unspeakable messes are better held in the privacy of our own home. There does happen to be one magical place in town that is stimulating enough to captivate Emme for an entire meal: El Charro. Fun music, lively murals, friendly service and food on our table in a matter of minutes is a winning combination. Emme...
Welcome Home, Baby!
Let’s do this — bringing our angel home! Emerson was released from the hospital the Saturday after she was born! Our time there wasn’t as relaxing as I had imagined; nurses in and out of the room all hours of the day/night and baby stressed me out when she didn’t catch on to nursing very well. We struggled through and eventually gave in to supplementing with formula. The day we were scheduled to check-out, we woke up to a bright orange bundle — jaundice. After 3 additional days in the hospital and endless poking and prodding, E’s bilirubin levels came down enough for us to take our little pumpkin home...
