At 19 months, Emerson loves to play outside and doesn’t come back inside the house without a fight. Thanks to the unseasonably warm weather this year we’ve already racked up several walks to the park, collected all the sticks in our yard (and every other yard on the way to the park), made a few trips around town in the bike trailer with dad, and jogged with mom in the stroller — she’s a great passenger! Going hand-in-hand with the great outdoors, Emerson is deeply fascinated by animals. She has learned to say bird, dog, puppy, kitty, woof, meow, and tweet. Milestone Update
13 months — my one-year-old in action! From the time Emerson started daycare (7 months ago) she’s cried EVERY time I’ve dropped her off… until today. This morning when I dropped her off she was full of waves, smiles, and ‘Hi’s’ for everyone. Even when I sat her down to play with some balls (she can also say ‘Ball’!) she waved at me and said, ‘Hi.’ I didn’t hear a single peep out of her when I made the big exit. Maybe I could have saved myself some heartache if I had been saying ‘Hi’ instead of ‘Bye’ to her every morning. Even without adequate amounts of sleep, my days...
A,B,C… ‘MOM’!
After several days of observation, I’m going to go ahead and give confirmation that Emerson’s first word has been spoken! Last week she was really going at it with the ‘Bbbbbb’ sounds and maybe even accomplished ‘Bob’ a time or two, but officially her first word is…. MOM! I heard it a few times last weekend but thought maybe it was a stretch to move her vocabulary out of the ‘jabber’ category into the ‘first words’ category. After a few days of repeatedly hearing ‘mommm mommm mommm mommm…’ I’m thrilled to say there is no question that she is saying ‘mom’! Even her dad cannot contest to this – his time...
