When your car breaks down while you’re in Iowa City for a wedding and you’re stranded for at least an extra day what happens? You’re forced to slow down, realize it’s August, become nostalgic about your summer and possibly even update your blog. I’m going back-in-time for a summer re-wind to catch this thing up on some of the highlights over the past few months and also to capture everything we’d still like to do before the end of the summer. We’ve had some memorable visits to the Memorial Park splash pad this summer including several birthday parties and also many trips just because it was too hot to do anything else. One...
‘Twas the Week Before Christmas…
… and what a busy week it was! In the final week leading up to Christmas we really packed-in the holiday cheer. Emerson had a blast at the Polar Express pajama party and Santa visit at school… Then she got to decorate another Christmas tree at Gaga’s house… On Saturday we grabbed cookies and coffee and finally made it to our grand old mall to visit Santa and see the decorated Christmas trees. She didn’t have much on her list this year… just a brain and a paddle. Her favorite movie, Wizard of Oz, has gotten the idea in her head that you have to see the wizard, or in...
Birthday Week
What a week it was! I haven’t stopped stuttering yet over Emerson’s age… out with ‘3’ and in with ‘4’ is a tough concept for me. An even tougher concept? Out with the warm and in with the cold! With temps dipping down as low as 35 degrees last week, I’m missing the summer months already. We’re definitely getting excited for some fun fall activities and breaking out the winter wardrobe…. not so bad, right? I am proud to report that the unseasonably cold weather didn’t stop us from a few outdoor activities last week. After a nice birthday snooze last Sunday, we visited the Clay County fair. Em couldn’t quite get over the smell...

It’s Officially Summer
Summertime! It’s finally here and this past week we enjoyed as many summer activities as we could possibly squeeze in. Sunday I took Emerson to the new splash pad in town — judging by the amount of people there, it’s a huge hit. I only had to run through the sprinklers (in my clothes) with her once before she was brave enough to run wild on her own. We went to Taco House and dried off with some nachos and burritos before calling it a day. Later in the week we had our first trip of the season to Arnold’s Park. Emerson was psyched to get her season pass and...
