Summertime! It’s finally here and this past week we enjoyed as many summer activities as we could possibly squeeze in. Sunday I took Emerson to the new splash pad in town — judging by the amount of people there, it’s a huge hit. I only had to run through the sprinklers (in my clothes) with her once before she was brave enough to run wild on her own. We went to Taco House and dried off with some nachos and burritos before calling it a day. Later in the week we had our first trip of the season to Arnold’s Park. Emerson was psyched to get her season pass and...
Family Reunion
We had the pleasure of seeing lots and lots of family this weekend! Nabers from all over the country gathered at the Lakes for some excellent meals, fun in the sun, and a competitive cribbage tournament — a Naber tradition! Emerson has been talking about how excited she is to see her cousins for weeks now. When it came right down to it and they all showed up she didn’t quite know what to do! Turns out she’s a shy girl just like her mama. Even so, we had a great time seeing everyone, but I wish I could have been in about 5 places at a time because the weekend...
We’re Back
After three consecutive weeks of snow, rain, and wintery conditions, spring weather has finally arrived! Friday afternoon’s beautiful weather brought us out of hibernation for the first time this year. I kicked up my feet and caught up on some reading from my lawn chair while Emerson napped; later we played in the yard, picked up sticks, raked, grilled, and enjoyed dinner alfresco. The combination of blue skies and warm sun with the absence of wind and bugs created ideal spring conditions. With many fun events planned for the coming weeks, I think the blog is coming back to life as well!...
Easter Jubilee
Easter has an interesting way of bringing out the competitive side of my family. There’s something about the thrill of an Easter egg hunt that is enjoyable and exciting even in adulthood. While Emerson visited her dad for some Easter festivities, my sisters and I battled it out down to the very last egg, hidden very well might I add. Even with the aid of Em’s shopping cart, I was not agile enough to defeat my sisters — Meghan collected the most eggs for a landslide victory. My mom’s elaborate and infamous game of eggs is full of cash, candy and prizes. Lucky for me, the rules of the game stipulate...
Up on the Rooftop…
As interested as Emerson was in the Christmas story, she was also well aware of Santa this year. She waited very patiently for everyone to wake up and gather together Christmas morning, but once we started on those gifts she was unstoppable. One of her Christmas books reminds us that the gifts we give one another represent the love of the Wisemen who brought gifts to Baby Jesus. Let me just say, we are loved and blessed by family and friends and I hope we always show love in return! I wish it didn’t take a major holiday to remind me of this each and every day. Wishing you all happy...
